Ban Lifted on Gay Marriage in California

Tears of joy as same-sex marriage advocates get the wordImage by bobster1985 via Flickr

Today the California Supreme Court lifted the ban on gay marriage because it was “unconstitutional”. They said it was the “right to form a family relationship”. This was after voters passed the ban in the previous election period. Since then legislation has been passed to allow gay marriage except it has been vetoed by the Governor Schwarzenegger.

California is now the second state which allows gay marriages. However when disputed legislation is passed in California, it sets a huge precedence for the rest of the country. It will be interesting to see if whether the rest of the country will follow suit with this new legislation. This new ruling by the California Supreme Court will probably stoke the fire for gay and lesbian right’s groups and will probably force other states to comply.

Google Apps

I have just recently added Google Apps to my website. I made this move because I have been getting tired of receiving spam and annoying e-mails. This move was not based off of the need to have a bigger e-mail inbox as the set-up I have right now is more than enough. I really am starting to see how great of a system it really is and how ideal it would be for Biola to be on such a nice system. In fact an educational institution like Biola would get extra features that I currently do not have access to with the service. I definitely will have to spend more time using and abusing the system. I will not only be using the email services but also the calendar and document services too. I’m excited to think of what it could do if implemented in the California School Project website. We will see if that is an option in the future.

Rapid VPS

I am excited to share about my web host, Rapid VPS. This is a great company which has awesome support, the most features that I’ve ever seen and all at a cheap price. I would definitely recommend them for anyone who is looking to get a reliable Virtual Private Server. They have the experience and the tools to help you with any problem and have exceeded my expectations in providing easy management and over-the-top features for your web hosting experience. The fact that through the control panel: you can restart your server, restore an image of your server, or reinstall the OS if your server goes haywire is a feature you rarely find.

I have been with them for over a year and a half and have been very impressed. They do have special pricing available if needed and they happily host my non-profit organization’s website: California School Project dot Com. Their motto is “root is everything” and to Rapid VPS, root is really everything. You get root access to your server and much more than you could ever ask for.

AdaptiveBlue Widgets

I posted information earlier about a great Netflix widget. However I was looking around some more and found another great Netflix widget. This widget is provided through AdaptiveBlue. AdpativeBlue is a great service if you want to add beautiful widgets to your website using RSS feeds from common websites. They provide widgets for services like Amazon, Blockbuster, Epicurious, iTunes, Last.fm, Netflix, New York Times, Rhapsody, Rolling Stone, Snooth, Wallstip, Wine.com, and Yahoo. The great feature is you don’t even have to have an RSS feed; you can show the best selling books off of Amazon or the music you’ve purchased off of iTunes. You can sign up for other features that include keeping track of stats, toolbars that help you see media reviews fast and easy, and also add great information to links about books, movies, music and stocks. Many of their features integrate with common platforms.

Let me tell you it has been so wonderful to be on Spring Break right now. I was at my uncle’s house in Temecula which was really nice. It’s always great to see family members and friends. They had an easter egg hunt and a wonderful Easter dinner there. Then on Monday we went down for the day to San Diego where I got a Bluetooth PS3 remote for watching those great Blu-Ray Movies and I got some sexy new Oakley sunglasses which I am stoked to have, even though I’m bankrupt now :). I’ll check to see if I have any good photos to post from that.

The funny part is when I got home from my uncles I remembered to bring my Ghiardelli candy bar in so it wouldnt melt the following day in my car but I forgot about all of the other chocolate I had. Luckily I checked and even thought my car was pipping hot, none of the chocolate had even started to melt. Right now I’m just getting caught up in the finances and havin fun with friends and the fam. I might be going up to Big Bear with my uncle and his family to go snowboarding 🙂 Now that would be fun!
